Note: While the material in this article came from the author's book, A Psychic in the Heartland (see page 5), many other books are available with information on the subject of life after death. This chronicle, a biography of Dr. Riblet B. Hout, (nicknamed "Rib") recounted this man's psychic experiences from his earliest memory. George Felbers, who was his spirit guide and mentor, had been an earthling. Cora was Dr. Hout's mother.
The knowledge of the happenings encountered during near-death experiences or out-of-body experiences is widespread, and the spiritual destination where these individuals visit is often referred to as "The Other Side." Surely everyone has heard of moving through the tunnel toward the bright light and a Presence (or an angel, if you will) waiting to greet the person who has "died." In addition, friends and relatives, and sometimes pets, are there to meet him or her.
George, the spirit guide who lived in the Earth environment until he was aged 23, spoke in Chapter 3 of the Book of his phenomenal encounter after dying: "I remember when I first came over here, two particular things brought me into a consciousness of surprise and almost shock. First was the luminosity of the world I had entered. I had never seen anything like it! Everything was self lighted. A tree would bear a light within itself; it would glow and I seemed to know it was a glow of spiritual power, of divine energy, of universal force. This light gives a feeling of stability in its thrust of spiritual energy. I didn't know what to make of the luminosity of various objects as I saw them immediately after I came over here. I didn't even realize at that particular time that I had died and was living in a different plane of life than I'd ever lived in before."
From Rib's mother, who had died after a short illness at age 55: "My son, I am entirely happy. This place where I am is too beautiful to describe and all is filled with love. The very air we breathe is love and the nearer perfect we become in our love, the nearer we come to perfection. You cannot comprehend God's love and magnitude. Even we who are here can only sense faintly His greatness. I had to 'die' to learn the lessons that God, through His love, wanted me to learn. If you can learn them early in life, it will help you so much more."
The fulfillment of your needs on the Other Side will be at hand. You can utilize those things which are needed as soon as the laws governing your future habitation are learned. You will not be a changed person, as a spirit; you will go on as you are now living on the Earth Plane. The difference is that over there you will have divested yourself of your physical body. But still you will have a body, and it will be the exact duplicate or replica of yourself which is your spirit Being. You will utilize this body for some time to come, for a long time, perhaps, before a transition is made into another form of existence which will go on beyond the realm where you find yourself. You, when you are over there, will soon learn to live within the law of reality, just as you are living according to your understanding of reality here on the Earth Plane where you are now. You will be less inhibited, less limited, and more able to advance into higher realms of spiritual thinking.
In that Spirit World, the people are alive and active and interested in what goes forth from their united world, same as are you. They are also variously active. They do not wander aimlessly among the flowers, chasing butterflies, for they have work to do. Activities they will enjoy will depend a lot on the activities that they are having on the Earth Plane, that is, the activities of thinking, the activities of spiritual yearning. They choose the things they want to do and, as a result, are happy in their work. George stated, "We are alive after death, we go on, doing the things we want to do and should do. Our World is real, Riblet, just as real as is your World. To you stone is a very solid substance. To me a stone or a tree and my general environment is as solid and real to me as is yours to you."
As for social activities, we hear that families have get togethers whenever desired. Riblet experienced numerous meetings with loving family members and friends during his out-of-body (OOBE) trips. When he lectured he used to talk about these episodes, but far and away, he most loved to read his encounter named, "The May Day Party," since it occurred on May 1, 1937. This adventure was actually a strictly social affair, in which Riblet was the surprised guest of honor. It was arranged to take place on the Spirit Plane by George. They sat chatting at a little cloth-covered table in an exquisite park-like setting. Then George said," Today we are to have a little party over here and some old friends are invited. It's a May Day party for you!" People from his old home town, many of whom were childhood friends and neighbors, came walking up from a path in pairs or small groups toward the gathering, where they cordially greeted Rib and renewed their friendships from long ago. His fondest memory was when he first saw his grandmother Riblet and her neighbor approaching and, finally, his mother to whom he was steadfastly devoted.
The lower realms of (spirit) life are those planes to which most spirits go when they go over to the Other Side, just at the time of death, where they may review their lives just ended. There is much to learn, and the newly born spirit looks over his or her previous lifetime, dispassionately judging himself with the help of one of the spirit teachers. If an earthling acted in a way that had an impact on another person, he himself will experience the emotions of that encounter—whether positive or negative. The point is to learn, to change one's ways, so whether or not he comes back for another lifetime, he'll have progressed in his journey toward those higher spiritual realms. He learns something of the spiritual evolution so he may cast off his previous activities, which were of the Earth, and look toward spiritual light to guide him in future living. After these spirits learn enough of the laws of life in this regard, they can advance into a new consciousness, a new vision, and different ideas.
The next planes are devoted to inspirational living with progress in
spirituality where the newly arrived spirits will live after death. Riblet
Hout's fervent hope was that his fellow man, learning about Rib's mystical
experiences on the other side, would be helped in dissipating whatever
fears they harbor about that unknown journey to the Other Side that all
will encounter.
